剑桥考试新版KET写作中，除了加重阅读体量，新版KET也加强了对写作技能的要求。在新版写作中Part 1中，对字数的要求是“25字以上”，不设上限，鼓励考生要充分地展示写作技能。
新版写作Part 2中，删掉了旧版较为基础和重复的英英释义单词拼写题和信息提取转换题，取而代之的是看图作文（35字以上）。
这个全新的题型，要求根据3幅图画进行故事写作，考查的是考生写作记叙短文的能力，要求考生具备一定的读图能力、想象力和写作逻辑性。
同时，看图作文对写作语言的准确性和多样性也有一定要求，比如作文里要会使用so，but，and等连词。
2020年改革之后的KET写作部分共有两道题，保留了原来的邮件/便签的小短文写作，并增加了一个看图作文。
