KET口语考试分成两个部分，总共时间是8-10分钟。在此期间，两位考生组成一组对两位考官。其中一位是主考官（又名提问考官，即Interlocutor），主要负责向考生提问。另一位是副考官（又名评分考官，即Assessor），全程沉默、观察、记录考生表现。
第一部分（Part 1）自我介绍：考官轮流向每个考生提出一些个人性质的问题，需要考生自我介绍个人经历、表达个人喜好、分享个人观点等。
第二部分（Part 2）协作任务：考生需要与搭档合作讨论。Part 2又可以划分为两个子环节：
1）第一环节，考生与搭档之间要根据图片内容和问题，讨论个人偏好，并阐述具体观点。
2）第二环节，考官会基于第一环节的话题向两位考生进一步轮流提问，考生需结合自身经历，表达个人看法。
